Scientists from the University of Vermont observed moths drinking the tears of a male moose, pulling them out of his eyes.

Zoologists witnessed butterflies sucking tears from moose eyes

Similar behavior is known in Lepidoptera, but it is more typical in butterflies living in tropical and subtropical latitudes. In temperate latitudes, this is the second such case reported by scientists.

Butterflies are said to use tears to compensate for mineral deficiencies.
