There are practically no prospects for the normal functioning of the WhatsApp messaging application (the owner of the company Meta is considered extremist in Russia and is banned) in Russia. This opinion was expressed by State Duma Deputy Minister Sergei Boyarsky on December 23 at a press conference at the Rossiya Segodnya media group, RIA Novosti reported.

According to him, if the situation does not change and everything develops as it is now, there is no reason to count on the proper functioning of domestic services.
A day earlier, Roskomnadzor reported that WhatsApp continued to violate Russian law. The Ministry reminds that if violations continue, restrictions on messaging applications will be strengthened, and if the requirements are not met, the service may be completely blocked.
The State Duma said when Telegram may be blocked in the Russian Federation
In August, Roskomnadzor officially started blocking calls on WhatsApp and Telegram. The press service of the Ministry of Digital Development explained the decision as being due to the fight against scammers and the management of instant messaging applications ignoring requirements for compliance with Russian law.
