At first glance, the Chivins looked like a soft body of a soft body crawling along the coastal stones. But if you turn them over, the ranks of extremely sharp and strong teeth are open – strong and accurate that scientists are trying to reproduce their property for modern technologies.

The engineers were inspired by the teeth of Mollusk animals to create materials from the future

New research has been published in the magazine ScienceHe studied the details of why the hiton teeth are very durable.

Analysis of soft animal surgery shows that the continuous flow of continuous proteins makes the teeth stronger than many industrial cutting tools, round grinding, dental transplants and surgery and protective coating, the publisher of the article David Kisalilus explained.

At the same time, the Chivils produce their teeth at room temperature with the accuracy of Nan – a quality that a person is difficult to reproduce. That is, the researchers emphasized that the Chivils create super teeth without heating or chemical conditions, as people work in industrial processes, which are simply at normal water/environment.

The main protein RTMP1 is unique to Chivins and helps put iron in teeth. This process allows soft -body animals to scrap algae from rocks, but before it is not known how proteins form tooth structure. The researchers monitored the path of protein according to Chiton's anatomical surgery: First, RTMP1 moved through nanotubes emitted from the teeth, then associated with compounds made up – a range of iron oxides. At the same time, protein released by iron is stored in another protein, ferritin. As a result, the new teeth develop into rows of super -hand structures that can be restored after wear and tear.

We can learn a lot from these biological works and processes. Understanding the work of the RTMP1 protein can help create a synthesis of space controlled materials

Collaborating with Japanese researchers was able to study the larger types of Chiton living in the Northwest of the United States and the coast of Hokkaido. Their work revealed, when nature creates a super strong structure without high temperatures and the chemical reactions needed for modern industrial materials.

This is a great opportunity to learn from nature and apply its solutions in the technology of the future, Mr. Kis Kisilus emphasized.

Therefore, unclear soft body can become a breakthrough source for material science. As Kisalilus noted, Chivil shows that even the most humble creatures can inspire the creation of “new, more durable and more stable materials”.
