Compared to UFS 4.0, the new standard practically doubles data transfer speeds – from 5.8 to 10.8 gigabytes per second. The UFS 4.0 standard appears in 2022. Experts say that integrated memory modules will be more energy efficient. The document indicates that the UFS 5.0 standard was developed with the needs of artificial intelligence (AI) in mind.
PhoneArena journalists note that so far no smartphone manufacturer has announced that they intend to create new devices using UFS 5.0 drives. However, they recall that Samsung released the Galaxy S23 series of phones supporting UFS 4.0 just a few months after announcing the standard's specifications. It's unclear whether Apple will use the new standard; The company does not disclose that data.
Previously, journalist Notebookcheck reported that low-cost smartphone manufacturers have committed to supporting devices with Android updates longer. For example, they cite Xiaomi Redmi 15C 5G for 200 USD (about 16 thousand rubles), which will receive operating system updates for six years.
