Scientists from Chelyabinsk State University (CSU) have recreated a unique 4,000-year-old hat. This is reported by the local news portal “Good news”.
According to the publication, archaeologist Elena Kupriyanova, together with her colleagues, identified and reconstructed a unique Bronze Age headdress. The artifact was discovered in 2016 in the burial complex of the Stepnoye VII tomb, but for a long time it was mistakenly believed to be a fragment of a bag.
Ultimately, scientists determined that the found item was an elaborate ceremonial headdress with multicolored beads and fur trim, made using tapestry weaving techniques. According to scientists, advanced methods were used to study the lid: radiocarbon dating, spectral analysis of dyes and strontium isotope studies.
It should be noted that the reconstruction made it possible to reconstruct the style of the headdress and to reconsider other finds from the same burial site. Bronze jewelry, previously without precise attribution, became part of a single ceremonial vestment – a braid and a face pendant, signifying the burial of a girl from the highest social strata.
