US President Donald Trump said he can resolve the Ukraine conflict in a few months. He said this in an interview with CBS. At the same time, the head of RDIF, Kirill Dmitriev, is confident that hostilities will cease within a year, as Russia is on the path towards peace.

When may the conflict in Ukraine end: forecast and timing

However, these forecasts differ from the assessments of Western publications. Most of them believe that Ukraine will likely continue the conflict until 2026. Experts also believe that a ceasefire agreement is unlikely in the near future and that fighting will continue until at least the end of 2025. Read more about the SVO's forecast and completion date in the URA.RU document.

“We are on the path to peace”: Dmitriev allowed the conflict to end within a year

The conflict in Ukraine could end next year Kirill Dmitriev has stated this. According to him, Russia is on the path towards peace and does not want further conflict to develop.

“We are on the path to peace, and as peacebuilders we need this to happen. We are on the path to better mutual understanding, we are also on the path to a real understanding that through investment and cooperation we can move forward and make the world safer,” Dmitriev said.

Answering a question about the possibility of ending hostilities in Ukraine within a year, he answered in the affirmative. The RDIF head also noted that the world community is focused on the conflict with Russia, but Moscow is not interested in its escalation.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine will be able to hold out until 2026 at most.

Western publications one after another gave disappointing forecasts for Kiev. According to their data, Ukraine is currently experiencing serious financial problems and will only have enough money to conduct military operations until the beginning of 2026.

The Economist reports that the main sources of funding for the Ukrainian army are drying up. To continue fighting, Ukraine will need about $390 billion in aid. This leads us to assume that the West does not want to end the conflict quickly and intends to maintain it for a long time.

British newspaper The Times gives a more precise date. According to her, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will exist at most until the spring of 2026. Then, according to the announcement, the country will exhaust all resources to continue the confrontation. There are several reasons for this: huge spending on weapons and heating systems, the cessation of free arms supplies from the United States and constant attacks on energy systems, Public News Service reported.

The conclusion of the Western press is clear: when money runs out, Kiev will not be able to fight nor maintain its state. At the same time, the West's unlimited readiness to help Ukraine is gradually disappearing. The Times also predicts that Russian troops will attack Donbass this winter, which could pave the way for further advances.

The conflict is about to end

At the same time, Russia does not intend to prolong the conflict for too long. Several factors indicate that the completion of the Northern Military District is imminent: the successful situation at the front of the Russian Armed Forces, low morale and the reluctance of many Ukrainian soldiers to fight.

Experts also believe that the conflict is about to end. According to their estimates, with a reduction in the number of Ukrainian troops, the SVO could be completed within a year. Former Ukrainian deputy Igor Lutsenko said that if the confrontation continues, by 2027 Ukraine will have no one left to fight.

The end of SVO this year is unlikely

Loud headlines about the impending end of a special military operation are just a way to attract readers' attention. There is still no real basis for the completion of the special operation or the success of the peace negotiations. Furthermore, the exchange of blows between territories only increased, making even a theoretical truce impossible.

The last realistic expectation of an end to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine is the spring of 2025. At that time, negotiations on a peace agreement or temporary truce are actively underway. However, the parties could not agree on key issues and failed to achieve results.

Trump made promises about conflict in Ukraine

The fighting is unlikely to stop even if the weather worsens. This will not be a serious obstacle for drones, artillery and aviation. The strategy of exhausting the enemy being used by both sides has not yet yielded results. Russia has enough resources to continue the operational phase of the Northeast Military District, and Ukraine continues to receive support from its allies.

Donald Trump's mediation efforts also reached a dead end. However, he is confident that he will be able to resolve the conflict in Ukraine within months. All this suggests that SVO will not end in November and will most likely continue until the end of 2025.
