In Moscow on Thursday, January 1, light snowfall is expected and temperatures are expected to drop to -10°C. Leading expert at the Phobos weather center, Mikhail Leus, reported this on his Telegram channel.

He noted that changes were taking place on the synoptic map of the area: the tornado was weakening, was moving slowly to the northeast, and a baric ridge was moving in from the west. In such conditions, cloudy weather with unstable clarity is forecast, with light snowfall in places, mainly in the first half of the day. Daytime temperatures will be 4–5 °C below the long-term average.
Leus clarified that in Moscow the thermometer will show from -8 ° C to -10 ° C, in the region – from -8 ° C to -13 ° C. The wind is predicted to be southwest at a speed of 2–7 m/s. The atmospheric pressure will increase and will be 740 mm Hg. Art., below normal.
The forecaster added that snowfall in Moscow will stop on January 1, but will resume on the afternoon of January 2. No significant precipitation is expected on the afternoon of January 1, he clarified.
The Russian Hydrometeorological Center predicts that 2026 in the capital and the Moscow region will begin with frosty days. On the night of January 1, the temperature in Moscow will drop to -12…-14 °C, in the Moscow region – to -16 °C, light snowfall is expected.
