The capital's urban services complex has compiled the results of finding owners for stray animals from the capital's shelters. The results surprised even experts – 2.7 thousand animals found homes. This number is almost double compared to a year ago, when 1.7 thousand dogs and cats became pets. What influenced Muscovites so much? Let me remind you that in the capital there are 13 shelters in the city, which currently house more than 15 thousand dogs and cats – their number is almost the same. They are cared for by shelter experts and many volunteers, their army numbers in the hundreds. Animals arrive only after being captured from city streets, where they end up in a variety of ways. As volunteers say, pets often come to the capital in search of food from country houses, where they are taken in the summer and then abandoned. Some other animals get lost or run away from their owners. We also take in puppies and kittens whose owners have not bothered to sterilize their pets.

Muscovites took a record number of animals from shelters: What kind of pets do people choose?

At the shelter, each new arrival is vaccinated, fed, microchipped, and prepared for life in the home: they conduct socialization lessons, photo sessions, and are shown at exhibits and installations. In addition, their photos are posted on various Internet resources, the main one of which today is the Mospitomets service. It appeared on the mos.ru portal at the end of October. Thanks to him, the Pooh dog, shaped like a bear cub, found his home from the Iskra shelter. A 5-month-old kitten named Stoppi left the shelter in Zelenograd to join the family. As the new owner Maria tells it, the children convinced him to take the baby because they also picked up their first cat, Kuzya, on the street.

The city management complex confirms that potential owners often pay more attention to pets with recognizable breeds, as well as younger animals.

“But the decisive factor when choosing a pet remains the personal emotional connection that arises between a person and an animal,” RG noted in the press service of the city's economic complex. – There are cases of older dogs and cats, including those with health problems, finding owners. For example, a few years ago, a three-legged cat was taken from an exhibition. Its owners are still glad this happened.”

According to statistics from the Zelenograd and Zoorassvet shelters, cats are adopted more often than dogs. As Zoorassvet volunteer Anastasia Krotova explains, shelter dogs are often large rather than medium or small, making it more difficult to care for them and find a place for them in a city apartment.

“But every use case of the device is a win,” Krotova assures.

According to the famous dog trainer, principal of Professional Dog Academy No. 1 Konstantin Karapetyants, the increase in the number of such victories, is explained by several factors: “High-quality and widespread advertising on social networks had an effect. Look at the posters at bus stops: “Puppy look” of a funny floppy-eared dog and the words “let's go home”. I immediately copied the code and put it on the site of the shelter. Volunteers also help “They have learned to show animals in a favorable light. They contact potential owners, food supply and care product companies. All this also increases the popularity of the shelter. Many social events also play an important role in teaching Muscovites to be compassionate. In addition, the price of purebred animals is not every family can allocate 50-70 thousand from the budget to buy a pet.” However, he does not advise following fashion or setting an example for neighbors who have adopted dogs or cats from shelters. It is important to think this step through carefully.

By the way, you can learn more about those waiting for owners and look for a four-legged friend on the Mospitomets website.
