Scientists noted that the average annual air temperature reached 8.6 degrees for the first time, 0.4 degrees higher than the previous year 2024, which was also the warmest year on record.
Only three months (May, June and August) were colder than average in recent decades. The remaining nine places exceed climate standards.
“January, March and November were especially warm: they were 6.2, 5.0 and 4.2 degrees warmer than normal, respectively,” said Mikhail Lokoshchenko, a leading researcher at the Department of Meteorology and Climatology, Faculty of Geography, Moscow State University.
The hottest day of the year in Moscow is July 11, when the air in the city heats up to 34.5 degrees. During the summer, the thermometer rose to 30 degrees or more eight times.
“Over the past year there have been no severe frosts, the lowest temperature was minus 16.2 degrees. It was recorded on December 24,” Moscow State University said.
Chief expert of the Moscow Meteorological Department, Tatyana Pozdnykova, previously reported that all computer models predicted a warm January 2026 in Moscow with positive temperature anomalies of 1.5 to 2.6 degrees.
