More than 100 animals from the city's shelter found new homes during the holiday season

During the New Year holidays, 110 dogs and cats from 13 shelters in the city found loving owners and in turn they found the most devoted and grateful four-legged friends. Shelter staff and volunteers helped select pets, and several dogs and cats found new families through this service. “Hygrometer” on mos.ru. This has been reported in urban service complex Moscow.

New Year's miracle from the shelter

Stunningly beautiful dog Peach celebrates the New Year at home. In the end, he ended up at a shelter for stray animals in the Southwest Administrative Region in the early summer of 2025. Shelter experts immediately realized that this was formerly a pet dog, but for several months no one came to look for him, many publications on social networks did not bring results. Peach got used to the shelter and learned to live in a cage with other dogs.

In the fall, a couple noticed him. It turns out that Peach is very similar to their dog that they also adopted from the shelter. Peach is now an official member of the family, where he is very loved.

On January 2 of this year, a real New Year's miracle happened at the Red Pine shelter for stray animals in the northeast of the capital – the dog Richard came home. He lived at the shelter for about four months, starting in August 2025.

“Our acquaintance with Richard was not like the story “And they lived happily ever after…” When I transferred him from quarantine to home, he greeted me in the most convincing way possible: he showed his teeth, jumped up and tried to eat my shoes. At that moment I thought: “This is a sign, we are not compatible.” But, as usual, life decided otherwise. We met again, and I deliberately walked with him – once, then twice. And it's clear that Richard is not difficult, not bad, but simply very sensitive and emotional. After that, I definitely became a guardian. Then there's everything: doctors, examinations, trying to figure out what's going on with him, getting to know each other, sometimes doubts. There were times when he suddenly opened his heart warmly. I am very attached to him and very inspired by his story,” a volunteer at the shelter shared.

Over time, we found the right owner for the dog, and now Richard is at home with someone who is with him at every doctor's appointment, is familiar with all his idiosyncrasies and difficulties, and still doesn't say no. The new owner saw the profile on the charity's website and it was love at first sight. Now Richard has settled down at home.

Find a loyal pet and give it love

Currently, there are more than 15 thousand dogs and cats in 13 city shelters. All children are microchipped, vaccinated and ready to live with a family. You can get acquainted with them during the opening hours of the institutions. To do this, you just need to have a passport and a desire to be useful for one or more tails.

Animal records can be found in the Mospitomets service catalog, developed by the capital Faculty of information technology and urban service complex. It offers a convenient search by filters – age, color and size. After filling out an application for a visit, shelter staff will contact the potential owner, conduct a preliminary conversation and arrange to get acquainted with the pet. If the decision is positive, a responsible animal farming contract will be signed. Three days are spent preparing the home, after which the pet is transferred to the care of the new owner.

To find potential owners, adoption exhibitions are regularly held where people can meet dogs and cats, interact with volunteers and shelter experts and immediately take the animal home.
