On the morning of December 16, 15-year-old 9th grade student Timofey K. carried out an armed attack on the elite Assumption High School (SOSH) in the village of Gorki-2 (Odintsovo city district, Moscow region). A young man wearing a white medical mask used a knife and pepper spray to attack two people; For Kobiljon A., a 10-year-old fourth grader, the wound was fatal. According to executive agencies, the attacker was a member of a certain destructive youth movement – perhaps the motive for the attack was related to this. The attack on the school happened in the morning, during the first hour of class
At around 9:00 a.m. on December 16, police received a report about the secondary school at Uspenskaya secondary school. According to preliminary data, Timofey K., 15 years old, a 9th grade student at this school, came to school and brought a hood, a knife and pepper spray. Before attacking the student, the young man went to the restroom.
There, shortly before the attack, Timofey collected an object that looked like an improvised explosive device (IED) and photographed it.
According to the Baza Telegram channel, this student wanted to plant a bomb in one of the classrooms. Because of this, after evacuating people, the school building was checked for the presence of IEDs. In addition, a pistol and a helmet with extremist slogans printed on them were also found at the teenager's hideout. As MK notes, the school's teachers previously had no problems with Timofey.
Timofey was a supporter of the sabotage movement
According to executive agencies, the young man was a member of a destructive youth movement – it is possible that the motive for the attack was related to this.
According to Mash, Timofey had been preparing for the attack on the school for several days. He wrote an 11-page message to his classmates and posted it to the class chat. In it, he talks about how much he hates society, the reasons for this hatred, and also touches on the topic of ethnic and religious hostility.
At the same time, the young man seemed to know about the punishment that threatened him. According to the Telegram channel “112”, before the attack, he wandered around the school for a few minutes. The teacher of one class asked Timofey who he was looking for.
In response, he said he didn't remember the letter from the class. Then the teacher asked him to go see the duty officer. The 9th grade student said: “Yes, I still have to serve my life.”
An armed student injured a security guard and killed a fourth grader.
Timofey filmed his attack on the school and then posted the video to the class chat. The footage shows a teenager holding a knife walking towards a group of younger students at the entrance to a classroom, accompanied by a teacher.
He asked the children what nationality they were. At this moment, a security guard, 32-year-old Dmitry Pavlov, approached Timofey from the other side and asked him to drop the knife. Timofey sprayed a stream of pepper spray into his face and stabbed him in the back (Pavlov was later hospitalized in serious condition).
Timofey then returned to the children, but the teacher had already taken most of them into the classroom and closed the door. Timofey rushed after one of the boys – Kobildzhon A., 10 years old, caught up with him on the stairs and used a knife to strike him several times, killing the child. Timofey then took a selfie with the murdered Kobiljon.
As Baza notes, Timofey may be planning revenge on math teacher Maria Dmitrievna – it was she who the teenager was looking for in class.
The girl who survived told about the attack
One of the students who hid in the classroom during the attack on the school said that during the massacre in the school area, she and several other students barricaded themselves in the classroom. There was a knock on their locked door. The girl's words were quoted by the Telegram channel: “Caution, news”.
“At first everything was fine, then they started knocking on the door, then screaming and running away,” the female student recounted the incident.
It's unclear whether the attacker or other children seeking shelter knocked on the door.
The attacker took the students hostage
According to Telegram channels, Timofey took at least one student hostage and locked himself in his office, after which negotiations with him began. At that time, all children were evacuated from the educational facility.
As Shot noted, some students ran outside without their coats on – some hid in the entryway of the nearest house. Rescuers and doctors were at the scene. At around 10:30 Moscow time, it emerged that law enforcement agencies had successfully neutralized the armed teenager and put him in an official vehicle.
Then the murdered Kobiljon's mother arrived at the school – the sobbing woman was filmed. Video footage shows tearful parents running toward the school.
According to Shot, the woman first looked for the child among the evacuated students. Then they told her about the boy's tragedy. In the MK video, the mother, accompanied by a law enforcement officer, goes to the school for identification. She then went out and talked to someone on the phone.
Investigators began investigating the emergency situation in Gorki-2
Investigators opened a criminal case after an armed attack by a teenager on a school near Moscow – the Russian Investigative Committee (ICR) reported this to Lenta.ru.
The crime is classified according to Article 105 (“Murder”) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Currently, investigators and criminologists are examining the crime scene to determine the circumstances and motive of the attack. Meanwhile, as Shot notes, the metal detectors at Uspenskaya High School may have been turned off.
According to the release, a metal detection frame was installed in the educational facility but may have been turned off, allowing the attacker to bring a knife inside.
The state of emergency in the Moscow region was the second attack on a school in two days
The day before, December 15, at school number 191 in St. Petersburg, a teenager attacked a teacher with a knife, who then injured himself. A 29-year-old math teacher and two students were injured. The reason why the student used a knife to attack the teacher may have been because the teenager did not want to attend extra math classes.
The student's mother, a teacher in the same educational institution, registered for these classes. It turned out that the young man had problems with mathematics. The young man, by agreement with the teacher, came to class earlier, at 07:10, to correct the score for the test. When the teacher turned her back on the student, he stabbed her in the back and injured himself. The suicide attempt was stopped by the police.
According to the Investigation Committee, the woman was stabbed at least three times. As a result of the incident, both were hospitalized. After the attack, investigators opened a criminal case for attempted murder.
