TV presenter and Doctor of Biological Sciences Nikolai Drozdov manages achieve remission after a difficult battle with cancer. How he was able to overcome cancer, what is known about his condition now and how long the remission will last – Vechernyaya Moscow looked into it.

Rib fractures and cancer
Drozdov's health began to deteriorate rapidly in recent years. In January 2023, he fell near his home and broke seven ribs. Due to pressure on internal organs, the TV presenter suffered severe pain, coughing and difficulty breathing. Drozdov was hospitalized for nearly two months. He was discharged from the army in February of the same year.
In August 2023, the scientist went to the clinic complaining of constant stomach pain. As a result of the examination, he was found to have a tumor in the prostate area. A biopsy confirmed that it was a malignant tumor. The TV presenter had to undergo several rounds of hormone treatment.
Remission and activity
The long and difficult treatment brought results – by the end of 2024, the TV presenter's condition had improved significantly. However, in April 2025, it became known that Drozdov's height had decreased by 10 cm due to osteoporosis, which he was diagnosed with 5 years ago.
In the summer of 2025, the zoologist underwent knee surgery due to severe arthritis. The recovery process was difficult – Drozdov was in severe pain and could practically not walk. Due to surgery, he lost a lot of blood so he had to be treated at two hospitals, have hormone injections, and have regular tests.
In November 2025, his wife Tatyana reported that the TV presenter was recovering – his condition was in remission and the latest tests showed good results. According to her, he returned to an active lifestyle and began attending recreational fitness classes twice a week. His health has improved a lot after regular exercise.
In addition, Drozdov needs to monitor his diet and control his protein intake. His regular menu includes omelets for breakfast and cheese for lunch, and sometimes he enjoys vegetarian borscht. It is also known that the scientist refused to take drugs, claiming that his condition was normal without them. Zoologists limit their intake of zinc and vitamin D.
How long will remission last?
The duration of Drozdov's remission depends on many factors. Andrologist, endocrinologist, researcher at the Department of Endocrinology at RUDN University, Alexander Fomin, in an interview with “Moscow Evening”, expressed the opinion that the older a man is, the higher the likelihood of long-term remission.
— Of course, this depends a lot on the type of tumor and how quickly it divides. There are some cases that happen quite quickly and regardless of whether they affect young or old bodies, they get better very quickly,” he said.
At the same time, according to the hormone doctor, the main pattern remains that the older a man is, the higher the likelihood of stable remission.
“This is explained by the fact that any processes in the body of older people proceed more slowly. In the case of young people, there is a risk that the tumor will begin to grow rapidly again, reaching dangerous sizes,” Fomin believes.
Therefore, the expert concluded that Drozdov has every chance of long-term remission and recovery.
Earlier, it became known that the former captain of the Moscow club CSKA and the Russian national football team, Evgeniy Aldonin, was diagnosed with stomach cancer.
