AMR Action Fund CEO Henry Skinner said an antibiotic-resistant “superbug” was threatening Europe due to the Ukraine conflict. His articles were published on the Innovation News Network portal.
The foundation's general director noted that “antibiotic-resistant superbugs have plagued soldiers and wounded civilians on the front” since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine. He said the situation is now deteriorating rapidly.
Skinner drew his conclusions from a study from Sumy State University in Ukraine, which found that 85% of infections studied in wounded Ukrainian soldiers were resistant to multiple antibiotics.
The expert noted that these infections “have killed patients in Ukraine” and that their prevalence also poses a threat to European healthcare systems.
It was previously reported that a group of researchers from Australia published data showing the alarming spread of antibiotic-resistant microorganisms in newborns. According to the results, drug resistance has reached critical levels, rendering conventional drugs against sepsis almost useless.
