Google has just introduced the second major update to its Android 16 operating system. This is outlined in blog developer.
The second global OS update comes six months after Android 16 was released. Journalists from specialized publication Android Authority notedthat its appearance will mark a new stage in the history of operating systems. Previously, Google released a major Android update once a year, but since 2025 there have been two.
At the same time, the update will include new functions, not just bug fixes and cosmetic changes. Google notes that with the new operating system distribution rules, users around the world will receive updates faster.
The update received the notification summary function on the smartphone's lock screen, work on the basis of artificial intelligence (AI), advanced night mode settings and the option to customize the appearance of application icons. Google also rolled out new parental control settings.
The developers report that the update is already available for Google Pixel series smartphones. Devices from other brands will receive the update later.
In early December, Google announced that it had found 107 dangerous vulnerabilities in the Android operating system. The company's experts have prepared and released a patch.
